Drivn and Tata Motors will increase the leasing of electric trucks.

industry news update

EV leasing firm Drivn, which specializes in providing leasing solutions to heavy commercial fleets, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tata Motors to explore leasing as the way forward to deploy electric commercial vehicles for fleet operators in India.

As part of the agreement, Tata Motors and Drivn will collaborate on offering customized leasing solutions for Tata Motors’ range of electric commercial vehicles. The two firms claimed that their alliance is aimed at overcoming the obstacles that hinder EVs from being adopted by fleet operators due to financing and deployment issues.

Through its unique operating lease solutions tailored to suit the needs of fleet operators, Drivn eliminates all the hassles that go with EV deployment through integration of financing, deployment and charging facilities.

Targeting 1,000 electric trucks:

According to Manav Bansal, CEO, and Co-founder of Drivn, the tie-up will help the firms in making electric fleets more commercially attractive, by tackling issues like upfront costs and deployment timelines.

“Tie up with Tata Motors helps us combine a strong portfolio of vehicles along with a leasing model which can solve critical issues such as upfront cost and deployment timeline,” Manav Bansal added.

In the coming two years, Drivn is going to deploy more than 1,000 electric trucks under the tie-up. The firm claimed that its leasing model will offer a more scalable path for fleet operators to shift from conventional commercial vehicles to electric trucks.

According to Alpna Jain, Co-founder and Chief Business Officer at Drivn, the tie-up will leverage the market reach of Tata Motors along with support in maintenance, vehicle uptime, and technology-enabled fleet monitoring.

Tata Motors adds to the electric truck lineup:

Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors, said that the goal of Tata Motors is to make electric trucks affordable for their customers since commercial transport will soon turn towards zero-emission technology.

Under the Tata Trucks.ev line of electric trucks, Tata Motors has launched trucks that have a weight capacity of between 7 and 55 tonnes. These trucks have been developed using the I-MOEV, Intelligent Modular Electric Vehicles, of Tata Motors, which are suited for use in e-commerce logistics, transportation of construction materials, and ports.

The company is building an ecosystem around electric commercial vehicles through charging infrastructure and a nationwide service network. With the tie-up with Drivn, the fleet operators can now opt for financing and leasing electric trucks.
