ZF Group India has managed to bag three separate orders for advanced testing systems used in the automobiles industry. This comes as a huge breakthrough in terms of the company’s growth in the area of vehicle certification and safety infrastructure in India.
These orders include battery testing system, tyre testing system and e-axle testing system and have been placed by three separate organizations working under NATRiP (National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project), MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) and the Government of India.
This new development will make ZF one of the main technology partners of all those organizations that are in charge of carrying out vehicle validations, certification and compliance tests. The company stated that the orders were placed based on India’s growing regulatory environment focusing on vehicle safety, quality and performance standards. In addition to that, the testing systems of ZF have a lot of local content as well.
Rising Demand for Validation of Advanced Batteries & Tyres:
In view of increasing electrification of mobility solutions, battery validation has become a crucial requirement for vehicle certification. Battery testing solutions by ZF help to validate batteries at cell, module, and battery pack level by incorporating all relevant performance, endurance, environmental and mechanical testing needs.
The solutions are certified according to various international and industry standards such as UL, IEC, UN, IS and LV124 standards. There are solutions available within the product portfolio which facilitate end of line validation of battery packs prior to their use.
Validation of advanced tyres has been increasingly required owing to emerging safety regulations in India like QCOs, Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Programme (BNVSAP), and AIS 142 TPMS.
ZF’s Tyre Efficiency Tester platform is used for evaluation of rolling resistance and other parameters related to the performance of the tyre. It can be used for testing tyres used in motorcycles, passenger cars, and commercial vehicles. The company mentioned that there are more than 500 million tyres tested through ZF’s tyre testing systems each year.
Assisting in the transition to an electric mobility future:
Thirdly, e-axles and electric powertrains are tested in our test stands which reflect the current shift in the industry towards electric powertrains. The test benches at ZF are capable of evaluating not only traditional transmissions but also the performance of electric powertrains by means of creating configurable test environments.
“We have extensive experience of conducting tests with regard to testing technologies, including those used in validating over 100 million transmissions in our lifetime,” stated ZF in a press release. This has helped in gaining trust of the regulators and their clients.
As India tightens the regulations on the safety of the cars and the testing standards, the need for an independent testing infrastructure is bound to grow.
