Suzuki Opens BANAS Biogas Plant in India

Suzuki commissions the BANAS Suzuki Biogas Plant, marking the development of more clean energy for sustainable rural development in the region. Suzuki Motor Corporation, hereinafter “Suzuki”, and Suzuki R&D Center India Private Limited, hereinafter “SRDI”, a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzuki in India, today held the opening ceremony of BANAS SUZUKI BIOGAS PLANT, which is located at Agthala, Banaskantha district, Gujarat on 6 December 2025.

BANAS SUZUKI BIOGAS PLANT is the first Suzuki plant manufacturing and selling CBG as fuel for CNG vehicles. Suzuki signed an agreement in September 2023 with NDDB and Banas Dairy, a union of dairy industries, with its headquarters in Banaskantha, Gujarat, through SRDI, and has been constructing the biogas plant.

The opening ceremony, with the participation of H.E. Mr. Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs, 9 Indian bipartisan parliamentarians, other government officials, Mr. Shankar Chaudhary, Banas Dairy Chairman and Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Koichi Suzuki, Suzuki Managing Officer, Executive General Manager – India Operations, Kenichiro Toyofuku, Suzuki Managing Officer, Executive General Manager – Biogas Operations, and some 25,000 dairy farmers, was organized at Banas Dairy Sanadar Plant on 6 December. After the ceremony, the BANAS SUZUKI BIOGAS PLANT was visited and inspected by Minister Amit Shah and other key participants.

BANAS SUZUKI BIOGAS PLANT plans to produce and sell 1.5 tons of CBG per day from a maximum of 100 tons of cow dung. Concurrently, they will be producing and selling organic fertilizer. About 1.5 tones of CBG is equivalent to the quantity of fuel required for about 850 unit of CNG vehicles per day.
