Industrywiz Daily updates

Mercedes-Benz revolutionizes the concept of luxury mobility through its first plug-in hybrid sedan in India – the Mercedes-Benz S 450 e. Boasting more than 2,700 innovative and enhanced parts as well as a pure-electric range of about 115 kilometers, this latest addition is also the most updated version of any S-Class variant yet made. The luxury automaker now brings to the Indian market its first plug-in hybrid in the S-Class lineup.

Defining the next generation of luxury and performance:

This new edition marks the launch of Mercedes-Benz’s first plug-in hybrid S-Class in India. With the combination of a 3.0-liter turbo-petrol six-cylinder engine and a 120 kW electric motor, the vehicle generates an impressive total power output of 435 hp and 680 Nm torque.

It also features an impressive acceleration rate of 5.7 seconds from 0-100 kilometers per hour and comes with a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour. This latest addition of luxury comes with a pure electric driving range of up to 115 km from its 22 kWh battery capacity.

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, while commenting on the launch, said, “The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been setting the benchmarks in the automotive industry around the world with its exceptional legacy of timeless luxury. The S-Class dominates the premium luxury segment in India and represents an aspiration of the customers with first-class comfort in each seating position, superior driving, serene power and safety, exceptional presence and customisation, and an intuitive digital experience with MB.OS. With over 2,700 new or upgraded parts used in the new S-Class, the luxury sedan provides superior levels of comfort, safety, digital and sophistication in its form and function and we are sure that it will surpass all customer expectations.”

Technology at the heart of innovation:

The Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) is introduced in the new S-Class, which integrates the entire car system to work as an intelligent ecosystem. Other tech features include MBUX Superscreen, AI-powered ‘Hey Mercedes’ virtual voice assistant and Google Maps-based navigation.

There is an array of upgrades to the exterior, including new DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps with micro LED technology, illuminated grille, and redesigned taillights.

Enhanced comfort and safety:

The S 450 e comes equipped with AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering as standard. For the first time in India, the S-Class also features 15 airbags, reinforcing Mercedes-Benz’s focus on passenger safety.

Mercedes-Benz follows a flexible, powertrain-agnostic strategy, and bringing a PHEV to the S-Class for the first time in India reflects exactly that. There is growing demand for a plug-in hybrid among our top-end customers, and the S 450 e PHEV answers it directly. With ICE, BEV and PHEV powertrains now in our line up, customers have the flexibility to choose the one that suits them best.

Bookings for the S 450 e are now open, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
