Henkel produces carbon-neutral goods in Turkey and India.

Industrywiz Daily updates

Henkel has succeeded in making its Kurkumbh manufacturing facility in India and its Gebkim Plant in Türkiye achieve carbon neutral production, which shows great success on the path towards sustainability in the Adhesive Technologies business unit. Both facilities have been able to reach the goal of being Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon neutral, which falls in line with Henkel’s plans to reduce carbon footprints from their operations.

For Kurkumbh, the achievement of carbon neutrality was attained through adopting high-efficiency electric systems and renewable electricity, saving about 11,300 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. In addition, the Gebkim Plant was able to achieve carbon neutrality after replacing its natural gas-fired boiler with an electric system, leading to 956 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent saved.

Integrated sustainability strategies of leadership:

“Being able to achieve carbon neutral production at two of our key Flagship sites in IMEA is a strong step forward in meeting Henkel Adhesive Technologies’ global sustainability goals,” observed Simon Ulmann, VP Supply Chain & Operations IMEA, Henkel Adhesive Technologies. “Our vision is quite clear. We are getting rid of fossil fuels across our business and substituting them with electric processes that harness renewable energy. The manufacturing milestones achieved in Kurkumbh and Gebkim demonstrate how we can operationalize our vision to make a difference in practice.”

Sustainability results from efficiencies and performance:

As per Bappa Bandyopadhyay, Director of Operations & Projects India, Henkel Adhesive Technologies, “Through the adoption of renewable energy sources and efficient systems, we have made substantial progress towards lowering our carbon footprint without compromising on our safety, quality, and performance benchmarks. This accomplishment reflects that sustainability can go hand-in-hand with business growth.”

Decarbonizing operations globally with the help of electricity and renewables:

Henkel is moving ahead with the process of decarbonizing its global production system through the use of renewable energy and electricity. This will aid in decarbonization in alignment with the zero-emission target of the company and helps customers achieve their sustainability targets.
