Havells India has made forays into the battery energy storage market through a partnership agreement with Pixii AS, which is a Norway-based energy storage solutions firm. The purpose of this partnership is the development and launch of innovative Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the Indian market.

The signing ceremony of the MoU took place with the Norwegian Ambassador to India and other high-ranking officials from the Embassy of Norway, Havells India and Pixii AS being present.

Steps to create a localized energy storage ecosystem:

As per the agreement, both the firms will work on a phased approach to develop a sustainable battery energy storage ecosystem in India. The initial step includes setting up pilot projects to understand the market requirement and evaluate the business potential.

Further, the tie-up would also include developing an end-to-end energy storage system catering to the needs of Indian customers. With time, the goal is to achieve localization and develop products according to the need of the market.

According to Reshu Madan, Head of SBU, Renewables at Havells India, the partnership brings global innovations in India when the country moves ahead in its transition to cleaner energy. According to Aseem Goyal, BU Head, Renewables, the partnership is another initiative by Havells which helps the company in meeting its objective of growing the energy solutions portfolio.

Thomas Ingebretsen, CEO of Pixii AS, says that India has become one of the major markets for energy storage in the world. The partnership combines technology from Pixii along with manufacturing strength of Havells and its market understanding.

As the battery energy storage market in India keeps growing fast:

It comes amid growth of the battery energy storage systems market in India, along with deployment of renewable energy and increasing need for reliable energy infrastructure in the country.

As per the firms, the Indian residential and commercial and industrial BESS market is estimated to touch roughly ₹10,000-12,000 crore in FY30, growing at over 100 percent compound annual growth rate over the next three years.

Under this alliance, Havells and Pixii will seek to bring forward the latest innovations in energy storage technologies, while also nurturing local innovations and manufacturing.
