Gmail provides a clean and elegant user interface and is a well-secured platform that provides end-to-end encryption for sending emails and in the past two years, Google has introduced many value-added generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) features. The internet giant is now incorporating new features from its AI product, Gemini, into its popular mailing service, Gmail.
There is also the new AI Inbox introduced in Gmail. Apart from including a brief overview of the mail content, it provides recommendations on the required actions, such as smart replies with accurate context. If the thread has been long, the ‘Catch me up’ feature is included. It provides a summary overview of important events such as travels, flight ticket details, meetings, dining reservations, workout sessions, purchase confirmations, and returns.
It also brings an extremely valuable and much-needed feature that we have always wanted in Gmail, and that is the “proof-reading.” With the introduction of Gmail, the writing assistance for proof-reading will now be offered through AI for refining writing in an advanced and better manner by implementing inventions like improved grammar, phrase selection, succinct expression, voice (turning passive into active voice), and sentence construction.
As in the Search app, the feature AI Overview is available in Gmail. It is expected to enable users to find information easily and faster compared to before. The user only needs to describe their search in the new search bar in the gmail inbox, and they will receive a helpful overview based only on the information contained in their gmail inbox.
However, these three mentioned features will be available to Google One Ultra and Pro Plan subscribers. For regular Gmail users, the tech giant has introduced the ‘Suggested Replies’ function with the element of personalization to the existing ‘SmartReply’ feature. With the help of the latest AI technology, the software can use the conversation for the appropriate replies that can directly reflect the user’s tone.
Additionally, it offers ‘Help me Write’. This is used to assist with the beginning process of email writing through AI. This is all accomplished with only one prompt. Furthermore, regular Gmail users will be able to utilize AI Overview. All the new AI features introduced in Gmail were available in enterprise versions for the last several months. Only now, they are being rolled out the regular users with Gmail accounts.
