GE Vernova receives a 100 MW order with the launch of a new turbine

Industrywiz Daily updates

GE Vernova has received an order from Powerica Limited for 100 MW of wind energy in Gujarat. The deal is notable since it marks the entry of the manufacturer into the Indian market of wind turbines with the help of its 3.8 MW-154m onshore wind turbine.

According to the signed deal, GE Vernova will deliver and install 28 wind turbines at the Botad Wind Farm located in Gujarat. It is worth mentioning that this is not the first project the two companies work on together. Previously, GE Vernova and Powerica developed three wind farm projects. The current deal with GE Vernova was won through an open competitive process of bidding hosted by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). Deliveries are expected to be carried out starting from Q4 2026.

New turbine enters Indian market:

The launch marks the debut of the new turbine developed by GE Vernova in the Indian wind turbine market. 3.8 MW-154m turbine platform has been specially designed for operation under local conditions and is equipped with various features increasing longevity and reliability of operations and projects implementation efficiency.

The turbine has an operating life of 30 years and offers advanced lightning protection system. Besides, it has a digital blade certification process that uses artificial intelligence, thereby offering quality management during manufacturing and operation. The platform also enables the use of tubular steel towers in its installation and use of cranes of capacity 650 tonnes.

As noted by GE Vernova, the turbine has been created to increase equipment availability and performance levels in energy generation in wind projects.

Manufacturing growth helps achieve localisation:

This order shall be supplied from GE Vernova’s manufacturing plant at Pune in India, which helps the company advance its localisation agenda in India. At its peak, the plant is anticipated to have a capacity of producing up to 1,500 MW annually.

This development is accompanied by yet another achievement for GE Vernova. The company has acquired certifications by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Additionally, the company has been approved for India’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM). Being in the ALMM is a requirement for all wind turbine manufacturers in India.

India aims to have non-fossil fuel energy production of about 500 GW by 2030, with wind energy contributing up to 100 GW. The wind business of GE Vernova has reached 5 GW of installations in India as of 2025, given the history of the organization in India.

GE Vernova wind business has a manufacturing and engineering presence in India. This includes manufacturing plants in Pune for wind energy production, a technology center in Bengaluru, and a plant for blades manufacturing in Vadodara. GE Vernova wind business has an installation of about 59,000 turbines globally, which is close to 120 GW of capacity.
