A new 300,000 tonnes per annum speciality carbon manufacturing plant has been set up at Vijayanagar, Karnataka, by Epsilon Carbon. This will help to increase the capacity to 600,000 TPA and make it one of the largest speciality carbon manufacturers in India.
The new manufacturing facility uses advanced process control and digitalisation techniques, based on the concepts of Industry 4.0. This helps in achieving high-quality output. It manufactures different products such as coal tar pitch, naphthalene, anthracene oil and creosote oil. The industries which benefit from these products include aluminium, steel, pharmaceuticals and advanced materials industries.
India’s participation in global supply chain activities:

TPA target of 1 million by 2029:
The commissioning of Epsilon Carbon represents another milestone on its long-term growth journey where it has a plan to construct an Integrated Carbon Complex in Jharsuguda, Odisha, to increase Specialty Carbon production to 1 million TPA by 2029. The plant uses Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) technology to recycle 100 percent of its treated wastewater and is fueled by a 17 MW captive power plant using waste gases, thus ensuring total self-reliance in energy requirements and carbon neutrality.
