Historically, BYD has broken into the list of the most innovative companies in the automobile industry in the world as revealed by the Automotive INNOVATIONS Report 2026 compiled by the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) in Germany. In this case, BYD becomes the first Chinese carmaker to reach the top spot in the rankings by accumulating 157 points while last year’s number one Volkswagen earned 143 points and the third place goes to Mercedes-Benz with 134 points.
Robust base in the development of new energy vehicle technologies:
Founded in 2003, BYD Auto concentrates on manufacturing only pure electric and plug-in hybrid cars through advancing technology that will aid in the shift from traditional transportation to environmentally friendly automobiles. Noteworthy, BYD has managed to establish core technologies in all new energy vehicle value chains and its innovations include Blade Battery and e-Platform 3.0 among others. Indeed, the firm stands out as the first car manufacturer to stop production of conventional fuel-powered vehicles in favour of electric ones.
Increasing global presence in Asia-Pacific:
In the Asia-Pacific area, the Automotive Sales Department of BYD was created in 2012 and oversees operations in more than twenty countries, emphasizing the supply of mobility solutions and new energy products to customers. This department operates from the global headquarters of BYD in Shenzhen and works on increasing its presence in Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.
