Aequs Infra has informed that its SEZ in Belagavi is currently running entirely on almost 100 per cent renewable energy, making it one of the greenest industrial clusters in India.
Popularly referred to as the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster (BAC), the cluster relies extensively on renewable energy even as it continues to provide facilities for large-scale manufacturing.
Spanning an area of over 250 acres, the cluster provides services to over 35 customers, which include both local and foreign organizations engaged in aerospace programs across the globe.
Industrial processes powered by renewable energy:
Energy needs of businesses running in the BAC are fulfilled by utilizing solar rooftops, renewable energy bought from other vendors and green energy generated by state electricity boards.
According to Aequs Infra, this holistic method has helped the cluster become almost entirely sustainable in terms of renewable energy use while ensuring reliability and efficiency at the same time.
The licensed power transmission network in the campus not only ensures stability in energy transmission but creates economic gains for the customers as well. According to the estimates of the company, manufacturers using the cluster have been saving more than 30 per cent of the costs compared to conventional industrial complexes.
Shyam Kalyanasundaram, CEO of Aequs Infra, commented that the Belagavi complex serves as proof that industrial ecosystems can be efficient and competitive and at the same time adopt renewable energy.
The cluster model allows for reducing the carbon footprint:
Apart from renewables, the Belagavi complex has implemented an integrated approach in manufacturing that eliminates transportation needs in the process of production.
This approach implies combining different stages of manufacturing within one facility. Consequently, the distance between the aerospace parts has been decreased from the typical 5,000 kilometers to just 500 meters.
According to the firm, it helps bring down the carbon emissions from manufacturing processes considerably and adds to supply chain efficiencies.
The Belagavi Aerospace Cluster is the first ever notified precision engineering and aerospace cluster in India and acts as a major manufacturing center for aerospace parts and systems.
Similarly, Aequs Infra is using these sustainable concepts for its other industrial parks as well, including the Durables Goods Cluster at Hubballi and the Toy Cluster at Koppal. It is believed by the firm that sustainable industrial ecosystems that run on renewable energy could play a significant part in the development of manufacturing activities in India.
This accomplishment takes place amid growing demands from different industries for infrastructure solutions that can offer both environment and economics together.
