UAC and Flamingo Aerospace reach an agreement for six regional aircraft.

Industrywiz Daily updates

Flamingo Aerospace Private Limited, headquartered in Hyderabad, has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) for the delivery of six IL-114-300 regional turboprop aircraft, which is a major step forward in enhancing the regional aviation capabilities of India. The agreement was signed during the Wings India 2026 International Aviation Exhibition held in Hyderabad.

As per the agreement, UAC will deliver six 68-seater IL-114-300 aircraft to Flamingo Aerospace, with plans to initiate initial deliveries as early as 2028. This phased aircraft delivery programme is expected to meet the growing demand for regional connectivity and support the Indian government’s UDAN scheme to enhance air connectivity to underserved and remote regions of the country.

Partnership to build aviation capabilities:

As part of the partnership agreement, UAC will offer Flamingo Aerospace a comprehensive cooperation framework and strategy to successively build aviation capabilities in India. This will facilitate phased industrial activities such as aircraft assembly, customization, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), and infrastructure development planning. This capability-building process is expected to help develop the local aerospace supply chain and manufacturing capabilities in the country.

Industry observers believe that this agreement is more than just a plane sale. The capability enhancement roadmap shows a long-term vision of how the Indian ecosystem can be integrated with the latest aerospace technology and practices, which could lead to high-skilled employment and a stronger Indian aviation industry.

Representatives of both parties have described the agreement as a building block for future cooperation. For Flamingo Aerospace, this agreement with UAC is a launchpad to expand its presence in the Indian aviation industry, leveraging Russian technology and an Indian business model. For UAC, this project presents new possibilities in one of the world’s fastest-growing civil aviation markets.

Strategic significance for regional connectivity:

The IL-114-300 aircraft, with its modern engines and optimized performance capabilities on shorter or rough runways, is believed to be well-suited to the Indian regional air transport network. The aircraft’s induction is likely to help increase air connectivity through schemes such as UDAN and other regional connectivity initiatives.

The agreement is pending final contract signing and approval, but it is a precursor to a stronger collaboration between Indian aerospace companies and international aviation technology partners, with a focus on local development.
