The Andhra Pradesh government has given a “No Objection Certificate” to Vedanta Limited (Cairn Oil & Gas Division) on the condition of drilling only 20 onshore wells in Krishna District. As per a recent Government Order, Vedanta Limited (Cairn Oil & Gas Division) has made a representation stating that its company was awarded the job of development of the Onshore Oil & Gas Field under the Discovered Small Field (DSF) Policy, 2018.
Further, they also demanded that a No Objection Certificate for drilling wells at 35 locations in the block in different village boundaries for Onshore Oil & Gas Development and Production in the Water Resources Department, Andhra Pradesh, may be obtained, since the Bandar Canal flows in the middle of the proposed block.
“After careful scrutiny of the case, the government hereby gives ‘No Objection Certificate’ to M/s Vedanta Ltd. (Cairn Oil & Gas Division), Mumbai, The Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation), Water Resources Department, Vijayawada, Chief Engineer, Krishna Delta System, Vijayawada, and Collector, Krishna District, will take necessary action in pursuance of it, as stated by a PTI
As per the order, the NoC can be given only from the irrigation perspective and is a purely temporary arrangement. The applicant will take all the necessary approvals from the concerned departments before start of operations, as is the norm. Otherwise, no water will be drawn from the sources of water in the irrigation canals like the Bandar Canal, KDS canal system, drainage system, ponds, and any other surface water source, an official said.
Cairn Oil & Gas is a business division of Vedanta Limited and is currently the largest private oil and gas exploration and production company in India, contributing a quarter of the total domestic crude in the country, with an aim to double their contribution to 50 per cent.
