According to a statement released on Friday, the government will produce a new set of national accounts on February 27, 2026, using the fiscal year 2022–2023 as the base year.
The base year of national accounts is now being revised by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). Professor B.N. Goldar is the chair of the Advisory Committee on National Account Statistics (ACNAS), which has been established to advise MoSPI on a variety of topics, including the inclusion of new data sources to improve National Accounts estimates and the methodology for compiling and presenting National Accounts Statistics for economic analysis and policy formulation.
According to the government, the Ministry intends to publish a few discussion papers on national accounts in order to inform users of national accounts data about the modifications being made in the new series.
This is the first discussion article that examines changes in aggregate compilation in both nominal and real terms using the production/income approach. The discussion paper can be found at www.mospi.gov.in, the website of MoSPI. It is anticipated that the next discussion paper will address methodological modifications in aggregate compilation utilising the expenditure methodology.
