NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), has inked a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with PTC India Limited for selling 1,200 MW of solar power through a bilateral contract. This agreement is an important step in the context of procurement and distribution of renewable energy in India.
The signing took place in the presence of high-ranking officers of both the organizations. Dr Manoj Kumar Jhawar, Managing Director & CEO, PTC India Ltd, and Dr J S Chandok, CEO, ONGPL, along with officers from NGEL, NTPC REL and PTC India Ltd attended the signing ceremony.
Renewable energy partnerships expanding:
This agreement clearly reflects how power purchase agreements are becoming an important aspect of India’s clean energy transition. It not only provides assured offtake to developers but also gives energy buyers/intermediaries the opportunity to source renewable energy to meet increasing demand and sustainability goals.
NTPC REL is an important channel for NTPC group to expand its operations in the renewable energy domain through large-scale solar, wind and hybrid plants. These plants will help India achieve its non-fossil fuel target as per its National Energy Policy.
Backed by India’s renewable energy targets:
The PTC India is instrumental in managing transactions related to the provision of power both in the short and long run. The new deal with NTPC REL will assist in meeting the renewable energy requirements of consumers while helping in achieving their sustainable energy ambitions.
The partnership shows the growing trend in the renewable energy space in India, where project developers, energy providers and energy trading companies are collaborating to facilitate the adoption of renewables. Considering that India continues to move ahead with its efforts towards decarbonization, large solar projects and PPAs will remain vital in the process.
According to the companies, the deal marks a major milestone in the enhancement of cooperation between NTPC REL and PTC India while enabling the creation of a more sustainable energy system in the country.
