AP Transco in Andhra Pradesh is making substantial progress with its ambitious plans for upgrading the state’s electricity infrastructure at an estimated cost of Rs 5,000 crore. The government-owned corporation is fast-tracking 68 transmission projects, which will enhance the state’s power grid and ensure reliable supply for future consumption needs from households, agriculture, and industry.
Big drive to bolster power grid:
The Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (AP Transco) is now working on 68 major transmission projects, which will eventually provide 15,274 MVA transformation capacity and 1,822 circuit kilometers of transmission lines.
High-level deliberations presided over by Special Chief Secretary K Vijayanand underscored the need to complete these projects within the scheduled period to facilitate industrial development and incorporate renewable sources of energy into the transmission network.
In addition to these projects, the state has also issued tenders for another 100 transmission projects of various voltage levels.
Development of green energy corridors and energy storage:
Another key focus area for the state is the development of Green Energy Corridors, with projects having an estimated worth of Rs 21,838 crore proposed for solar evacuation and pumped storage schemes. The state is also installing additional high-tension lines for solar manufacturing clusters in the Nellore region.
There are efforts in place for energy storage as well, with Andhra Pradesh acquiring 3 GWh of BESS (battery energy storage system) as per a central government scheme. The nodal body AP Transco has already initiated competitive bidding for 1,000 MW of standalone storage at ten locations.
According to officials, these initiatives will ensure that Andhra Pradesh emerges as a strong contender for renewable energy production and steady electricity supplies.
