LMT Tools India has opened the extension of its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, marking the setting up of what it claims is the largest gear cutting tool manufacturing plant in the country. The new setup further cements the company’s position in the precision engineering and industrial tooling industry in India.
A subsidiary of LMT Group, a Germany-based company, the company has enhanced its production capacity at its Chakan facility by 60 percent. This comes in line with the increasing demand for high-precision gear cutting tools in the automotive, aerospace, railway, wind energy, die & mold, and general machining industries.
Capacity enhancement to support advanced gear production:
The new Chakan facility is equipped with advanced manufacturing technology and infrastructure that supports complex machining. With the new addition, the company is well-equipped to cater to the growing demand in the domestic market as well as export orders, further cementing India’s position in the global supply chain of high-performance gear cutting tools.
Gear cutting tools are highly important for transmission systems, drivetrain, and gear applications in industry. With the increasing trend of localisation in the automotive sector and the increasing need for advanced engineering capabilities in India, there is a steady demand for precision tools.
By increasing production, LMT Tools India can work towards improving lead times, delivery cycles, and technical support to OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. This expansion will also further enhance the position of Chakan as a key location in the global manufacturing network of the group.
Presence of leadership signifies focus on India:
The inauguration event was marked by the presence of senior global and regional leadership from the LMT Group, including Oliver Thomas, Managing Director of LMT Group and CEO of LMT Tools, and Ramakant Reddy, Managing Director of LMT Tools India. They were also joined by Carsten Storm, CFO of LMT Tools, and Raphael Lienau, Managing Director of LMT Fette, among others.
The expansion is a sign of continued investment in the Indian manufacturing sector at a time when the country is also positioning itself as a global hub for precision engineering and advanced manufacturing.
With increased capacity, advanced technology, and a more diversified sector focus, LMT Tools India is also strengthening its position in the country as a supplier of complex machining operations for the domestic and international markets.
