ZF India Pvt. Ltd. has received a substantial business nomination from a leading Indian OEM for its AxTrax 2 LF electric portal axle, which has been nominated for use in 18-meter articulated buses and 11-meter city buses. This multi-year supply contract is effective from October 2025 and includes several thousand units, with the first deliveries scheduled for 2026.
Compact and lightweight e-axle for maximum efficiency:
The AxTrax 2 LF is a compact and lightweight low-floor e-axle, which replaces conventional engine and axle solutions while maximizing space for passengers and batteries. It also enables easy interchangeability with existing axles and is based on ZF’s modular eDrive platform, which features sophisticated technology such as dual PMS motors, 800V SiC inverters, and an advanced oil-cooling system. The advanced oil-cooling system improves efficiency and enables a variety of configurations for zero-emission vehicles, which meet the highest safety and cybersecurity standards.
Supporting multiple zero-emission platforms:
As stated by Akash Passey, President of ZF Region India, “AxTrax 2 LF allows OEMs to develop buses that optimize passenger and battery capacity while offering outstanding efficiency and reliability. The compatibility of AxTrax 2 LF with battery-electric, fuel cell, and trolley buses makes it possible for ZF to meet the zero-emission mobility requirements and strengthens the position of the country in the development of next-generation commercial vehicles.”
Integrated technology for simplified vehicle design:
Speaking on the occasion, Paramjit Singh Chadha, Sr Vice President – CVS, ZF Group (Region India), said, “By integrating propulsion, braking, suspension, low noise, comfort, safety, and intelligent electronics in a compact package, ZF supports OEMs in simplifying vehicle design and shortening development time. Our commitment remains to collaborate with customers to provide reliable, efficient, and future-proof solutions for zero-emission mobility in India.”
Improved performance and modular design:
The more powerful version of ZF’s e-axle solution improves hill climbing performance by over 25 percent for articulated buses up to 30 tons, while consuming less energy than its predecessors. It comes with sophisticated software features such as axle condition monitoring and OTA software readiness. It also includes fully integrated hardware solutions that make vehicle integration easier for OEMs. The AxTrax 2 LF solution complies with the most stringent safety and cybersecurity requirements and is available in two power versions (260 kW and 360 kW) with a maximum torque of 36,800 Nm. Its modular design allows for different drivetrain configurations and supports battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and trolley buses, further solidifying ZF’s position in the e-mobility sector.
