Akasa Air, the fastest-growing airline in India, has now become a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the industry body that represents more than 360 airlines globally and accounts for more than 80 percent of the total air traffic in the world. This is a major milestone in the airline’s development.
The fact that the admission of Akasa Air into IATA has taken place within a short span of more than 3 years since its launch as an airline is in line with the airline’s achievement in the IOSA program, a significant safety milestone that acknowledges its worldwide operational requirements, a mandatory requirement for such membership.
IATA has an important role to play in setting global aviation standards for safety, security, sustainability, and technological and operational efficiencies. It provides a common platform for airlines, governments, and other players in the aviation industry to come together and work as a collective entity.
In relation to the above development, Sheldon Hee, the Regional Vice President of Asia-Pacific for the IATA commented: “We are delighted to welcome Akasa Air to the IATA membership community. The potential of the aviation sector in India remains enormous as the sector provides 7.7 million jobs and an economic value of US $53.6 billion.”
Mr. Vinay Dube, Founder & CEO, Akasa Air, said: “IATA plays a foundational role in governing the international airline ecosystem by setting robust industry standards and promoting cooperation between important stakeholders from around the world. Its membership from Akasa Air signifies not only sustainable growth at Akasa but adherence to the highest international standards with regards to safety, effectiveness, and sustainability. Of course, we are confident that this partnership would help establish not only international credibility but make Akasa a future-ready airline from India at the international level.”
Since entering operations, Akasa Air has been working towards developing a strong, agile, and customer-focused airline, anchored by good governance and a sustainable vision for growth. The induction of Akasa Air into IATA is a major milestone on this journey, signaling the airline’s strong commitment to not only shaping the future of the international airline sector but also its continued role in a growing international air transport network from India.
